Delighted that you achieved two of your 2011 goals – good for you! And I think that’s the best piece of sock-related advice I’ve ever read. If you get a chance Ngaire, it would be great if you could cut and paste your comments above to my other blog too (link below). I know people would enjoy reading them.

I have not, in fact, completely solidified my goals for 2012. They're still a work in motion. But, they're in motion, and that's a start. The goals will be, broadly, something to do with exercise, something to do with writing, and something to do with money. I've also decided on somewhat of a resolution, to help me with my goals. This year, I'm only going to put my energy into the things that I really care about. I'm hopelessly messy and disorganised. I feel somewhat guilty about both of those things, but at the end of the day, I don't care about either. So, rather than taking time away from the things I do care about - by spending futile time sorting my mail or doing my laundry, when I could instead be exercising or writing, I'm going to give up trying to be organised. If that means that I don't wash a single sock for all of 2012, but I do succeed in writing - something, anything, then so be it. I'll buy new socks. And write a novel sitting atop the pile of old ones.

In relation to 2011 - that was the first year, in response to your advice, above, that I ever made 'goals'. And, to my genuine astontishment, I reached, nay, surpassed, two out of three. The third was a crashing failure, but without that I never would have had the other two successes. So, yearly goals, for me too, an institution.

Thank you for the advice.

You know, I wondered that very thing myself! I'm sure some grammatical hiccups will have crept back in there.
I managed to get the book under 90,000 words and sent it back to the agent a couple of weeks back.
